Who (The ...) is Alice?

In 2022 we ask our visiting artists to tell us a little bit about themselves. We hope that these short questionnaires will reveal something that you didn't know or expect about them.

When PwC Panto comes to town, our lives turn to (slightly organised) chaos. So let's take the opportunity of the calm before the storm to get to know Kate who play Alice in Alice in Wonderland.

Q- Tell us about yourself

A- Hi my name is Kate, I recently turned 30 29 again and in another life I think I would have been a pastry chef.

Q- What will you play on stage in Birr

A- I will be playing Alice in Alice in Wonderland the Pantomime.

Q- Who is your biggest influence (in life / on stage)?

A- I’ve always loved Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders. They’re quick wit and love of fun and silliness inspired elements of our version of Alice in Wonderland.

Offstage, my own mother filled our house with music, games, characters, and laughter. I’ve always felt there’s magic and fun to be found everywhere if you look hard enough.

Q- Describe yourself as a 10-year-old.

A- I spent a lot of my time cooking and baking with my mum in the kitchen, playing dress up or building sandcastles on the beaches of Essex.

Q- What’s your best onstage memory?

A- I got to sing the Nicki Minaj rap section of Bang Bang on a stage in a rainbow coloured tutu dress – best 30 seconds of my life!.

Q- What’s your worst on stage memory?

A- I once played a stool and someone sat on me. I was 8 and it’s a role I’d really rather forget.

Q- Where are you at your happiest?

A- Peering over an O/S map walking along a footpath in the sunshine with the wind in my face.

Q- What’s your favourite colour?

A- I love purple – it used to be a colour reserved for Roman Generals because the colour dye was hard to mix.

Q- What’s the last book you enjoyed?

A- The test of courage by Christopher Robbins; it’s a moving biographical piece that I have read over and over again.

Q- What’s the last film / play you enjoyed?

A- I love Matilda the musical, Roald Dahl has a wonderful way of creating characters for a stage and Tim Minchin’s music is superbly matched to the story.

Q- What’s your favourite song of all time?

A- Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen

Birr Theatre & Art Centre will host Alice In Wonderland on Friday April 1st & Saturday April 2nd.
