10 questions for Lauran Beth

We ask our visiting artists to tell us a little bit about themselves. We hope that these short questionnaires will reveal something that you didn't know or expect about them.

Lauran Beth has been a regular in Birr Theatre since our School of Rock days. You might also have seen her performing in town during her frequent busking visits from UCC where she studies languages and performs regularly.

But really, who is Lauran Beth? Her answers to our quickfire questionnaire might surprise you!

Q- Tell us about yourself

A- My name is Lauran Beth and I am a 21 year old local singer songwriter from Shinrone, County Offaly! I started playing guitar at 11 and have been writing songs ever since! I am currently studying English and Spanish at UCC

Q- What will you play in Birr?

A- I definitely want to play a mixture of covers and original songs. Being a busker, playing covers is definitely in my comfort zone, so I would like to play a couple of my own songs to get out of that comfort!

Q- Who is your biggest influence?

A- In life, my biggest influence would be my mother (it’s cheesy but it’s true!) – she’s such an amazing woman and she’s a massive inspiration to me. On stage, I would say Avril Lavigne is one of my biggest influences – if it wasn’t for finding her music when I was 10 years old, I wouldn’t be playing music now!

Q- Describe yourself as a 10-year-old.

A- Stubborn, determined and overly energetic – definitely a bit of a drama queen too! (Although that hasn’t really changed)

Q- What’s your best on stage memory?

A- Playing in the All-Ireland Singing Championships and coming in 3rd place – that was one of the first instances where I had to play for people who were intently watching and listening to me. It was a nerve-wrecking experience but definitely rewarding!

Q- What’s your worst on stage memory?

A- When I played in my school’s musical production of ‘Oklahoma!’ and tripped both myself and my dance partner onstage. Not to mention that my wig also fell off in the midst of the fall – not my finest moment!

Q- Where are you at your happiest?

A- Either when I am driving in my car and blasting music or when I am walking down the country roads near my home and listening to music – I like to escape to my own world sometimes.

Q- What’s your favourite colour?

A- I love all pastel colours, but I am definitely a dedicated purple girl 😊

Q- What’s the last book you enjoyed?

A- I recently read the first book in the Bridgerton series called ‘The Duke and I’ – I cannot wait to get stuck into the other books in the series soon.

Q- What's the last Play or Film that you enjoyed?

A- I recently watched Pretty Woman (1990) for the first time and am still obsessed – Julia Roberts is such an icon!

Q- What’s your favourite song of all time?

A- My favourite song of all time would have to be ‘Gypsy’ by Fleetwood Mac. I am a massive Fleetwood Mac fan and ‘Gypsy’ takes me to another place whenever I listen to it.

Lauran Beth will open for Christine Tobin on Saturday, 20 April from 8pm.
