This week's film title, the lovable - ALI & AVA

Film@BirrTheatre brings you the best of Irish, world and independent cinema on the theatre's big screen, every Thursday night at 8pm.

It's high time we had a little romance on our big screen and this week it couldn't be in better hands than those of Adeel Akhtar (Ali) and Claire Rushbrook (Ava) who embark on a forbidden affair in this charming and heartfelt drama of autumnal love. A love so powerful it takes on conquering the divisions of race, the disillusionments of middle age, the discomfort of parenthood and grandparenthood, and the tensions of class!

Ali is a likable, happy-go-lucky British Asian in Bradford whose well to do family own properties. Ali's job is collecting rent, and he is a genial friend to the tenants and their families. Ali describes himself as a frustrated DJ and a musician: his house has a converted basement “mancave” where he keeps his extensive vinyl collection. But Ali has a terrible secret: his wife Runa (played by Ellora Torchia) has outgrown her puppyish husband intellectually and they are separating. Rather than confess this shaming fact to his family, the couple are still living together.

While taking the daughter of one of his tenant families to school, Ali comes across Ava who is a classroom assistant. She is a widowed mother of five whose late husband was an abusive bully. Ava is a sweet-natured and generous lady, young at heart, fond of music and looking for love. They instantly click with each other and their growing relationship inevitably causes problems with their respective clans. Love just doesn't come easy....then again can't love conquer anything and everything even in this real and difficult world?

Getting to make Thursday night Film@BirrTheatre night, has never been easier! Grab a buddy or indeed pop along yourself, book a seat online, or grab a ticket at the door and get tucked in for Ali & Ava. It's 94 minutes long and suggests one should be 15 years old to watch! Of course if you have seen five of our movies already- you get to see your 6th FREE!

What a lovely way to spend an evening!
