Who is Tara Flynn ?

In 2022 we ask our visiting artists to tell us a little bit about themselves. We hope that these short questionnaires will reveal something that you didn't know or expect about them.

Tara Flynn will be on stage with Marian Keyes to share some big-hearted and thoughtful life advice in the live version of their ever-so-popular Podcast "Now You’re Asking".

But really, who is Tara Flynn? Her answers to our quickfire questionnaire might surprise you!

Q- Tell us about yourself

A- I’m an actor and writer from Kinsale, living in Dublin, who’s found herself in the enviable position of answering people’s questions and problems in a podcast with the gorj Marian Keyes. Talk about lucky! My new one-woman show with theatre company ThisIsPopBaby will be out later this year.

Q- What will you play in Birr

A- Marian and I will answering ‘Asks’ sent in by our podcast listeners, solving problems with our tongues firmly in our cheeks. We share all the various ways we ourselves have messed up in the past – and may well do again – which is how we’re now so very wise. Oh, fierce wise.

Q- Who is your biggest influence?

A- Marian is a huge influence. She’s just an all-round great person. My favourite stand up is Maria Bamford, who deals with darkness in a really funny and compassionate way. #goals

Q- Describe yourself as a 10-year-old.

A- Dour, scared of everything, over-loud in case I wasn’t being heard, animal-and-corduroy-dungaree lover.

Q- What’s your best on stage memory?

A- Making up a song in Vicar Street with David O’Doherty and Flight of the Conchords. Top, hilarious lads all.

Q- What’s your worst on stage memory?

A- Falling on to the stage, in a miniskirt, at a pub gig in Cork and showing the entire bar my knicks. The knicks were dead basic. How embarrassing.

Q- Where are you at your happiest?

A- On a beach in the sun, or on the sofa at home with my husband, dog and cat. They’re the best.

Q- What’s your favourite colour?

A- Purple. I got married in purple and it’s now the colour of our living room walls and we stand by it.

Q- What’s the last book you enjoyed?

A- I adored Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. And OF COURSE getting to meet Rachel again in Again, Rachel (by our Marian). I’m not alone in either of those.

Q- What’s the last film / play you enjoyed?

A- I adored Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan. And OF COURSE getting to meet Rachel again in Again, Rachel (by our Marian). I’m not alone in either of those.

Q- What’s your favourite song of all time?

A- The Winner Takes it all by ABBA, or Moments of Pleasure by Kate Bush. I’m a sap. Sue me!

Tara and Marian will share the stage on Thursday the 8th of September from 8pm.
