From Blooms to Beetles
January 2025
Dana Sorokina

Born in Latvia, Dana studied at Riga Technical School of Art and Media (RMMT) before moving to Ireland in 2001. Over the years, Dana explored her new home, became an Irish Citizen and kept pursuing her passion for the arts, completing several painting courses under the tutelage of well-known artists.
Dana’s work has evolved over the years but has always brought her love of colour and her passion for texture to the fore. Now, a full time artist, she dedicates all her attention to her art and invites you to follow her as she explores her favourite themes of nature and nostalgia.
The exhibition:
Step into a world where the delicate beauty of nature meets the whimsical charm of nostalgia.
In her captivating exhibition, From Blooms to Beetles, Dana Sorokina invites us to experience the vibrant interplay of colour, texture, and emotions. Through her expressive oil paintings, Dana breathes life into two deeply personal themes: the intricate elegance of the flowers that accompany her daily, and the iconic allure of vintage VW Beetles that accompanied her past.
With her mastery of the palette knife, Dana captures the fragile vibrancy of floral motifs, evoking both their fleeting grace and enduring resonance. She applies the same technique in her playful portrayals of VW Beetles and offers a fresh perspective on a beloved classic, bringing up her memory and sharing her joy.
Rooted in her Baltic heritage and inspired by her Irish surroundings, this exhibition presents a harmonious dialogue between the organic and mechanical, inviting us to explore the world as seen through Dana’s vivid colours.
The exhibition will be open to the public at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre from January to March 2025. Weekdays from 1pm to 5pm.
Admission is free, and all are welcome.
