There is more to the theatre
than our stage

The name says it all.

We are Birr Theatre AND Arts Centre. The second part of our name means that we support a range of visual art media in our exhibition space and that we deliver regular Arts projects aimed at the local community.

We are always on the look-out for innovative, distinctive and inspiring work to share with our local patrons. Should you wish to exhibit in the theatre check out our open call document.

DARK / LIGHT
Common Ground 2022

15th annual Common Ground – an exhibition showcasing the exceptional talent and diversity of Visual Artists in the Midlands today.  This year’s theme is Dark / Light.

The contrast of DARK and LIGHT is a powerful way to bring attention to your focal point. The viewer's eye will follow this contrast, helping to draw their eye into the art.  The use of extreme contrasts of light and dark in figurative compositions heightens their dramatic effect.

The Sunbeam

A collection of intricate, attractive drawings in which the single graphite pencil is used to maximum effect. Their visceral compositions highlight Eve’s confident technique, producing exquisite, limited-edition prints on Hahnemuehle paper with archival inks.

Accompanying selected drawings is a short poem, inspired by the work, written by Caoimhín Mac Unfraidh.

Pause...
Vincent Devine Ambigutrees series

The hidden shapes in the trees ask the viewer pause, search and spend time with the paintings until they reveal themselves.

There is more to these “trees” than meets the eye with the shapes becoming apparent after a time
