Artists are invited to exhibit their work for a three month period Suas an Staighre, our gallery space in the foyer. Calls for applications are issued on an annual basis for the following year. FLOURISH by Carole Quinlan

Carole Quinlan is a textile artist and ceramicist working from her own studio, at Clonmacnoise Pottery, Athlone, Co Westmeath. In addition to this Carole teaches Art and Design at Athlone Adult Education Centre and has a vast experience of working with students of all levels in an encouraging and informative way. In her practice as an artist Carole has been working mainly with batik for about the last six years. The immediacy of dripping, brushing and scratching with hot wax and dye saturating deeply into the cloth creates vibrant and exciting colours. Influenced by ordinary things, natural forms, landscape being the main focus, but also flowers and people. The theme of this exhibition is open space and tiny detail. The artist hopes that people will see the progression of ideas from the tiny detail of everyday things that we normally don’t take the time to look at to the vastness of the space around us. The work is batik with applied fibre work.
The exhibition will be officially opened on Thursday 3 July at 7pm and on display Suas an Staighre until the end of September.
